Dexter Fang

Building businesses, thinking out loud, living in between.

Hey, I'm Dexter. I'm a business student at Minerva University, and I'm also a founder. Minerva has no campus, so every semester the whole class moves to a new country. That's how I ended up living out of three suitcases, with a company to run in between classes and a camera to show the whole thing.

What do I do?

Three things take up most of my days. One company, one school, one camera. People tell me they don't belong together. I think that's exactly why it works.

I run a company FEiNNR AI

AI native marketing for global brands. We run overseas communities for Insta360, Bambu Lab and others. We started by shipping AI subscription apps, 2,000+ paying users and $30K+ in revenue, then moved into marketing because that's where AI actually changes the work.

I go to school Minerva University

Business major, strategic finance. No campus, no lectures, seven cities in four years. Every class is a live seminar where everyone has to talk. It's the hardest school I've ever been in, and the only one I'd do again.

I make videos about all of it

I'm new at this one. The channel shows what it actually looks like to build businesses while you're still in school. Business ideas, the things I build, what I'm learning about AI and marketing, and some life on the road. I don't know yet where it goes. Let's find out together.

How do I live?

Minerva moves the whole class to a new city every semester. Four years, seven cities. Five done. Tokyo next, then back to San Francisco to graduate. Each one gets a few months, a new language to fail at, and a new set of friends to say goodbye to. I'm not a tourist in these places. I live there, and then I leave.

🇮🇱Israel and the West Bank, May 2025

The trip I still think about the most

I was in a meeting at a café in Tel Aviv when the rocket sirens went off and the barista pulled me into the basement. Two days later, same thing in Jerusalem. Then I crossed into the West Bank. The conflict isn't something you read about there. It's on every wall, every checkpoint, every face. I came back shaken, and I still don't have a clean take on it. I don't think I'm supposed to.

The stamp that ends a semester

Four months in Taipei, done. I took the best memories with me. I love this city and the people I met here. That's the strange part of this school. Every few months you fall for a place, and then you have to leave it.

Apparently I'm a chef in Budapest

Walked into a Hungarian restaurant and the menu said the owner and chef was named Dexter. Looks like I have a side business I didn't know about. Travel is mostly this. Small, dumb moments you'd never get at home.

Why I went back to school after seven years of work

People asked me why. Honestly, I wanted to learn how to think properly, with people from everywhere, and Minerva was the only school where that's the whole design. No lecture halls. Every class is a small live seminar, and you get called on whether you're ready or not. Then the whole class moves to another country.

How did I get here?

Before school I spent seven years building things inside companies and then on my own. Most of it worked. One thing didn't.

  1. 2018
    HUYA
HUYA. League of Legends esports and live streaming. My first job out of school. Esports was exploding in China and I was in the middle of it. Then JOYY, the US listed parent company, took me in as a management trainee.
  2. 2018 to 2020
    JOYY
Product manager, then product director. My team built gaming utility apps for Android, Lulubox and Flashdog. They grew to 30M+ users, with 1.5M+ people opening them every day. I got promoted after a year. Same products, same scope. The title just caught up.
  3. 2020 to 2022
    SHOPLINE
SHOPLINE. Three jobs in two years. After JOYY acquired SHOPLINE, I was sent over to build new business lines. First, direct access to China's apparel supply chain for US sellers, 100+ clients and $2.3M a year. Then China marketing. Then I moved to Singapore to launch social and livestream commerce, zero to 100+ clients and $15M+ annual GMV in nine months.
  4. 2023 to 2025
    Uocan
Uocan. Co-founder, San Francisco Bay Area.We designed a smart trash can from scratch. Our own patent, an iF Design Award, 10,000+ units sold, about $450K in sales. Then supply chain cash pressure got too heavy and we shut it down. It hurt. It also taught me more than anything that worked.
  5. 2023
    Minerva University
Went back to school. Minerva University, class of 2027.Started in San Francisco while still running Uocan. Business major, strategic finance. Seven cities, four years.
